Data Center Interconnection
Megaport revolutionised global data center interconnection (DCI) after launching in Brisbane back in 2013. Since then we’ve expanded to over 950+ facilities in 26 countries around the world, making Megaport the obvious choice for Telstra to back when shutting down TPN.

Internet Access
For Telstra customers migrating off TPN, Megaport delivers a robust and scalable Internet Access solution that seamlessly extends your Telstra MPLS network to the public internet.
While TPN’s Secure Internet Access was primarily used as a backup or temporary solution, Megaport’s offering enhances connectivity by delivering direct, high-capacity internet breakout through our global network. This solution is designed to integrate with your existing Telstra MPLS environment, ensuring that you maintain secure, any-to-any connectivity while enjoying the benefits of enhanced flexibility and redundancy. Connecting Megaport to your Telstra MPLS Network
For Telstra customers migrating off TPN, integrating your existing Telstra MPLS network with Megaport offers several flexible migration paths tailored to meet diverse infrastructure needs and redundancy levels.
One option is to connect via private WAN links in data centres where Megaport is present. This method involves establishing physical cross-connects via Telstra to the Megaport Fabric and requires Layer 3 functionality. Typically delivered through a Cloud Router or Virtual Edge (aka Virtual Network Function) with a capable virtual appliance, this ensures seamless, any-to-any connectivity between your Telstra MPLS sites and the new Megaport environment. You can choose from fully protected, redundant configurations spread across multiple metro areas for mission-critical services or simpler single access setups that may be suitable for non-critical workloads or testing scenarios.
Alternatively, Telstra customers can leverage connections from the LAN side of your existing hub sites, whether in data centres or head offices, to extend connectivity directly to the Megaport network. This setup might involve ordering a cross-connect within a data centre or using extended dark fibre at a head office, allowing you to use your existing on-site customer premises equipment for routing while maintaining integration with Telstra’s MPLS network.
Additionally, incorporating Megaport into your SD-WAN overlay offers enhanced performance with intelligent path selection and improved resiliency, making it an attractive option for distributed sites and cloud connectivity.
These varied approaches ensure that your migration from TPN is smooth, reliable, and aligned with your operational requirements. We’re working with Telstra to help you get the best solution for your business.
FAQ on TPN Shutdown
What are the key dates for the TPN end-of-life process?New Sales Cutoff: 30th November 2023
